The Paramount Chief of the nine Ngok Dinka tribes around the still-disputed Abyei region (between Sudan and South Sudan) was killed in an ambush of the UN convoy in which he was returning from peace talks about the future of the region on May 4.

A UN peacekeeper was also killed, and two others injured in the ambush by Misseriya militiamen, allegedly linked to Sudan Armed Forces. The attack was the latest episode of violence in an ongoing feud between nomadic Arab Misseriya tribesmen and mainly Christian Ngok Dinka farmers.
