A church has been burnt down and another targeted in Indonesia’s Aceh province.
Clashes broke out between Muslims and Christians following the arson on 13 October in the world’s most populous Muslim nation. One person was killed and dozens injured, while thousands of Christians fled the province, reports UCA News.
Earlier in October, Muslims had demanded the closure of 10 churches the local government said lacked necessary permits.
A 2006 law requires that churches provide a list of the names and signatures of 90 congregation members and receive written support from 60 local residents. However, Rev. Erde Brutu told UCAN that the churches were build long before then, with some dating back to the 1930s.
