ISIS has released 25 of the Assyrian hostages it captured during the militant group’s February 2015 attack on villages along the Khabur River in Hassaka Province, northern Syria.
The hostages were released in good health on Christmas day. Two of the hostages were men and the rest women and children. All the children belonged to six of the seven women in the released group.
Of the 253 Assyrians taken from Khabur in February, 105 are still being held hostage. ISIS executed three of the hostages in September and 120 other hostages were freed in a phased release over the last 10 months.
Most of the estimated 3,000 Assyrians who fled during the attack have not yet returned home.
